Alpha legion Breachers, wip

There is something special about Breachers in the Horus Heresy, 30k. Those big ballistic shields...

I just had to have some for my Alpha legion. The squad is carrying two melta guns and the sergeant have an powerfist. I hope this will give me a nice overall tactical option to tackle a little of everything. The specialist weapons and the sergeants powerfist is glued on with a small drop of superglue so I think I can snap those of I want another loadout in the future.
These Breachers are intended for Zone Mortalis games.

Alpha Legion, 30k wip

A friend "forced" me to start 30k... Horus Herasy

He gave me a good deal on some Marines and together with some other miniatures I plan to atleast get a Zone Mortalis themed 500pts Alpha Legion force to start with.

Here are some work in progress pictures of my tactical squad, the base marines are from the Betrayal at Calth box with some added kit from Anvil Industry and some small things from other sources.

The Sergeant with a Artificer armour, Boltgun , Power fist and a Power dagger.

Leman Russ Battletank squadron Work in Progress

Im currently working on fixing up a squadron of Leman Russ Battletanks. (amongs many many other project currently in the pipe...)

These comes from a myriad of different sources and I must admit I really enjoy fixing up old battered and badly painted second hand Imperial tanks. Adding some Forgeworld bits, greenstuff and lots of bits to bring them back to life.

A lot of time have been spent magnetising all the weapons and sponsons but this means I now can swap all the weapons, creating all the different types of Leman Russ configurations. I will have to spend some time magnetising even more different weapons in the future to add to the arsenal of weapon choices.

Here are some work in progress of the LR squadron at the moment.

There are still lot of paintwork left but now you can see what Im aiming for.

Norse archers

Here we have some mutch neaded archers for my norsemen.

Some more kitbashing. Mostly Conquests games plastic archers with Gripping Beast Dark age warriors but with some heads and bits from their Hirdmen box and Fireforge Rus.

I must say that Conquest Games has really stepped up the game with their plastic archers and plan to buy another box. The arms and heads are not the same fitting as the other miniature makers but with some work you can combine them with others.

Viking

I bought the Rus infantry from Fireforge games knowing I would use them... http://www.fireforge-games.com/webstore/medieval-russian/russians-infantry-details

Seeing the latest trailer for the coming Russian movie Viking made me kitbash some of the Fireforge Russians with Gripping Beast Hirdmen. Enought to make a small unit in Lion/Dragon Rampant.

That combined with the whole eastern Norsemen, and their lack of attention in this more English orientation miniatures gaming world.
This is a whole new world to explore, sailing the rivers of Volga, crossing the Caspian sea and dragging the boats all the way to Byzantium, Persia and trading steel for those Ulfberht swords…

For those who have missed it:

Granted the movie will probobly not be as good as I want it to be but still... Rus Vikings...

For those interersted in the plastic Rus box from Fireforge Games, here are some reviews:

Flock, basematerials..

The trees from across the park where I live have really "gifted" me with basematerials..

Im not totally sure on what type of terrain or miniatures they fit but I'm guessing they will come in handy in the future.

So go out there and bring lots of zip bags...

Berber infantry, greenstuffing work in progress

Just a small update on my Berber infantry. I had an idea of using Victrix Carthaginians miniatures (http://www.victrixlimited.com/collections/cartheginians/products/carthaginian-citizen-infantry) with new turbans and new shields. Im pleased how they turned out, maybe add som felt armour to some of them in the future to better match the reference shield. I have also thought about using Warlord Games plastic Celt shields, their seems to be some with the shape from the reference picture. At the moment they are equiped with lead shields from Gripping Beast making them rather front heavy....

This really isnt a priority project but one late night I thought it was time to do some more work on the. We will see when that will happen again.

French knights, work in progress

I feel satisfied with the glueing and the greenstuff work on these French knights. These will be nice to field once all painted.

I have given some horses extra chainmail or clothed barding, the dark metal I think will look nice contrast against the bright colours I have planed.

As a sort of tribute to my first knights I have integrated some old Bretonnia bits into this unit.

Death Korps Grenadiers, Work in progress

Just a small update on my 500pts Escalation Campaign Death Korps.

These two units of Grenadiers will form my Troop choice in my Assault Brigade in my Clubs Escalation Campaign we are running. At the moment we are trying to get 500points painted. Every person is in on this on their own level, some just to get it to table top standard, some have starting to produce some real pieces of art.
Im in on this campaign with the aim of getting my miniatures a little above TT standard but we will see how this goes, I keeps finding things to add all the time.

There are lots of work left for these Grenadiers with washes and shades, highlights and more detailing as painting the glass on their googles and so on. Maybe more work with their bases.

But I have now painted the bases of them all in a somewhat coherent brown colour, giving them all basic camouflage, white "skull" face protection, dark green unit recognition
colour (German ww2 markings for Panzergrenadiers) on one of their shoulder amour and on collar, rank markings on the Watchmaster shoulder and a white stripe on the back side of the helmet (American ww2 markings borrowed from the 29th Assault Brigade storming the Normandie).

So as you see, a lot of work and thoughts has been put into these miniatures.

Lots of paintwork left to do but they are starting to form up.

I used bits from Perry Miniatures plastic Napoleonics for conversions as can be most easily be seen on one of the Watchmaster here, sabre in hand.

And on a special note, its hard to get good pictures with dark miniatures...
