Unboxing Typhaggahw

Unboxing Typhaggahw Gwyfern of Ceredigion from Maelstrom, Banebeast.
A short review.

Besides a long and strange name this is one creature that I really like.
I have had my eyes on it since it was released.

After the battle reports in this blog I got new interest in my Treemoss fantasy project and when Maelstrom had another sale I could not restrain myself any longer.
And here it is, just arrived by mail this day.

It had a nice boxart and all its pieces in bubble wrap. The box also contained a small paper on how to prepare the assembly and so on.

It’s a nice model and I now wish that I didn´t have a lot of halfpainted miniatures on the table so I could start on this monster right away.

New books

This summer I have read a lot of books and it was time to replenish the stash.
The lot fell on these two.

The Varangian Guards. I have always been a little interested by the Varangians. Originally Scandinavians taking a oath to the ruler of Miklagård (The Great City or the City of Michael, Constantinopel).

The plan was to get some more knowledge about them and to give me some inspiration and an excuse to introduce them as homecoming Viking warriors in my Tree moss fantasy project. Hopefully they could be a colorful addition to my collection.

Central Africa by Chris Peers with a thought it can give me some more knowledge when it comes to different tribes of Africa or just inspiration in general to my TribalAfrica project.

I just love the feel of the book; it feels good to touch the book. Strange feeling but it is really something special with a real book.

The book has some neat pictures and some photos of real tribes. By first impression I can strongly recommend it, by content we will see but it looks promising.

Review - Capitan miniatures Genderarmerie

Review - Capitan miniatures Genderarmerie

Genderarmerie à pied and Genderarmerie à cheval from Capitan Miniatures. 28mm French Napoleonic troops.

I just got these miniatures and I haven’t found a lot of pictures on them so I thought I could get some photo up. Maybe it can make someone else happy.
Before I got these I tough it could be a little fun to add a little more character to my Napoleonic collection and by getting miniatures from a little less miniature maker it would add a new flavor. And its always funnier to support the little companies.

Size comparison Victrix, Capitan, Perrys

The miniatures them self match Perrys and Victrix in size but are a little heftier. They will be perfect for my rugged, tough veteran image I’m after.

Size comparison Victrix, Capitan, Perrys

The horses are somewhere in between Victrix and Perrys plastic cavalry but the mounted troops seems to have a little special posture when they ride. Nothing that’s bugs me.

All in all Im am very happy with these and Im sure they will add a colorful flavor to my French army.
Im not totally sure how to use them with the Black Powder rules that I use for Napoleonic battles but Im thinking of using them as a tough veteran skirmishing force. They will strike fear in any Spanish Guerrilla or guarding the route into Russia.

And this is how they ended upp all painted up.

Review - Warlord Games Unmarried Zulu

Review - Warlord Games Unmarried Zulu
http://store.warlordgames.com/unmarried-zulu-regiment-plastic-boxed-set-7557-p.asp

As a neighboring tribe to my Perry plastic Africans I got a box of Warlord Games Unmarried Zulus.

The box contains 32 plastic warriors on frames, a metal chief and a small paper on some history and famous units. I like that small history lection included, it feels like that’s the little extra in the box.

The warrior frames are four men per frame and at first I thought this could be repetitive but as it also includes lots of weapon options and 8 different head I didn´t feel like that at all.
Even thou I will skip gunpowder weapon in my African project I still got plenty of weapon arms to choose from.

A Zulu warrior in full regalia is just beautiful.
I just love this wonderfull age of plastics.

Review - Perry miniatures Mahdist Anṣâr, Sudanese Tribesmen

For yet another side project I’m been tempted to get me some tribal Africans.
I would have loved to get some Masai warriors but there’s no way in hell that I am going to pay Foundrys €19,2 for only 6 miniatures.
Much better to get a box of plastic warriors instead.

A box of Perrys: Mahdist Ansar - Sudanese Tribesmen contains 40 miniatures…

And what a lovely box this is. It will be perfect for me to start up my Tribal Africa project.

Hell Dorado

Hell Dorado

” Before our armies went down through the river, and before the crowned heads of Europe launched this unstoppable charge into horror, Hell was only what our fears made it: a continent whose boundaries were drawn by the vividness of our nightmares, the ghost of an eternity of blood and pain. Hell had always been the greatest threats, brandished in the face of sinful souls just as heaven had always been promised to the good and pure…”

The miniature game of Hell Dorado is set in the war torn world of the 30years war. A great massacre of people in the town of Magdeburg leads to an opening of a portal to hell. The warring nations slowly start to understand what they have stumbled upon and a temporary truce is formed in the new settlement of New Jerusalem, the first European settlement in hell.

But this is no empty land, and others have been here before and the demon lords of hell is not fond of the newly arrivals. But the multi factional demon lords which has been at war with each other since the dawn of time has problem uniting in a common course to drive the Europeans out. They rather use this opportunity and try to trick the Europeans against their foes and old rivals.

Because of this a foothold is secured.
The newly arrivals tip the fragile balance and all hell brakes lose.
Some of the former slaves of the demon lords rebel, and the Ottomans are worried by this motion as they have travelled the lands of hell long before the Europeans and starts to muster in strength to face this new threat.
This is the world of Hell Dorado.

When I first laid my eyes on the first Hell Dorado miniature I was spell bound. They are gorgeous. I recently bought the rulebook, I don’t know if I will actually ever start to play the game but if the rules are anything like the models I knew I would be happy.

The rulebook is nicely written and I had a hard time not to keep reading the stories in it.
Unfortunately I haven’t playtested it yet but by only reading it, it looks good.

I can recommend it just to have and look at all the pretty pictures if nothing else.
