Death Korps of Krieg

This Saturday my friend Daniel and I teamed up for double tournament in 40k that was held at my Club in Växjö. 8 teams resulting in 16 players.

Daniel and I have talked to each other for some time now and planed to do a joint venture in collecting a Death Korps of Krieg army. And this tournament would be a perfect way of learning the “new” (for me atleast…) 40k rules in this edition, use the very nice miniatures and try out the brand new Death Korps of Krieg Assault Brigade from Imperial Armour 12

I almost forgot to take pictures from the games but this is what I managed to snap. The brown Death Korps are mine, Daniels is green (of envy ;p)

The mighty sisters of my Death Korps: Irma, Heidi unt Helga

I dont want to know what they try to do...

Meltaguns and Krak grenades finish of a traitor tank.

Without his pimpmobile my great Commander has to walk as a commoner.

The tournament was lots of fun with some really nice moments and many medals was awarded postum to our valiant soldiers. Don’t expect and Death Korp to survive very long…

But the most epic moment of the whole tournament must have been when a Chaos mechanical dragon entered play, spewing fire and death before it only to be shot down in a single turn from a platoon commander and his squad.
Crashing down into a Chaos Dreadnought, taking and hull point on him and ended lying down belly up. The platoon commander and his squad brought it down with a quick burst from their old “reliable” plasma guns and pistol.
All in a day’s work for an Death Korps Platoon Commander…
Many a sixes was rolled. This is the stuff of legends.

So lots of fun in a day and lots of rules to be learned, the main rules for the game itself, all the enemies units and special rules but also the new army list with its special rules and very special type of game play.

Norsemen Cavalry

I wanted to include some cavalry in my growing collection of Norsemen’s. As I havnt found any one making any that look good I thought that this could be a perfect time to kitbash the plastic kits
available on the market.

The horses and bodies are from Conquest games from their Norman range, thinking that would be somewhat contemporary to what Im aiming for and the heads and some of the shields and weapons are again from Gripping Beast excellent plastic Hirdmen kit.

I like the final result but the horses looks a little wrong. Conquest games still has a little to learn I think. But for the price of these its hard to argue.

The banner was a quick paintjob very late last night. Not the best looking but it will do.

High Elves

Dammit I realy thought I had left warhammer fantasy...

Their been lots of talk and games played at the club and our local forum soo after years of neglect stowed away in boxes I think Its time to dust off the old High Elf army.

So on a sunny stroll with the daughter down town we walked by the local hobby and guitar shop (yeah its combined) and a brand new Warhammer Highelf book was purchased and I even got some spare electric guitar strings for some planed convertions later on.

First impression is very good, really nice book with nice layout. Well not the price but never mind that now.

Funny thing is that GWs Spearmen and Archers still looks like shit in this edition. My lead Silverhelms and Swordmasters looks so much better than current plastic ones.

Ok my shadow warriors are not much to brag about and the horses on my Dragonprinces are not the best looking..

The White lions I haven’t seen the new ones in flesh but the ones I got looks okey so I think they will do.

But I really like the new Ellyrian Reavers and the Plastic Griffon from the starter box.

We will see how well this litle project will take me before I find a new shiny thing...
I got loads of "Vikings and trolls" planed, still some Africans unpainted and I filled up but still planning on new DBA armies...

Norsemen Gestir

Norsemen Gestir

These Guests warriors are made from a kitbashing of Conquest Games Norman Infantry and with Gripping Beast plastic heads with some extra bits from elsewhere. For unpainted pictures of the actual kitbashing look here: http://kampgruppe-engel.blogspot.se/2013/03/norsemen-kitbashing.html

These are the first test miniatures but I like them so I think I will create some more later on.

My sources on Gestirs are somewhat lacking at the moment and I would need some more.

* Gestir (Tax Collectors/Wardens/Military Police)

* They did apparently only receive half the pay of an actual Hirdman.

* A group of low born professional warriors. Historically they acted as a kind of police force, doing errands for the king, executing his justice and collecting his taxes.

As Im somewhat lazy at the moment I did a quick google-translate on some Swedish text I found and fixed the most obvious errors, hope you understand the content of it at least.

* The Hirds second class, the so-called guests, officiated at the outer watch keeping, did reconnaissance in war and the Kings commandments everywhere in the country. At the king's farm/castle they had special shelter and tables set aside for them, and in the leiðangr their own ships. Inclusion in the visitors' class was done with less solemnity than in the actual court-men, but also where required class members agree on a new member's entry

So how am I to use them on the table top ?
Im not totally sure just yet.
Statwise I would rate them somewhere in between an Hirdman and a Bondi. But are they bad Hirdmens or are they good Bondi troops?
Maybe they should be given some special rules to represent their reconnaissance ability.

In the Hail Caesar rules maybe they should be rated as Bondi troops with the special rules of Marauder, and maybe with Tough fighter and/or Stubborn.

But any opinions or ideas are much appreciated.

Zulu light infantry

I needed some light infantry for my Zulus, for peripheral combats, scouting and just for spear throwing.

To create this unit I used Warlord Games plastic Zulus as a base and added some extra arms from Perry brothers Sudanese plastic box. The weaponry is a mix of those two and some extra wirespears. I wanted not to include that many shields but more long spears.
I kept some models with the traditional Zulu shields to give the players an easy way of identify these as Zulus on the tabletop.

And with an quick paintjob, here is the result.
You got to love a brown primer and the lack of Napoleonic buttons… ;)

They managed to track down a large monkey and corner it. I’m not sure thats an good idea.
And I’m not sure I’m allowed to play with my daughters toys when she’s not allowed to play with mine.
