Saracen Army

Every now and then I think its nice to do these sort of armyshots of a collection. To count in the numbers of miniatures and get a feeling of what can be presented on a table top and so on.

This is my Saracen collection at the moment, minus the African skirmishers press-ganged from my Africa project.

Any wishlist of how I should expand this army or just a cool unit you would like to see here ?
My plan was to try to make a Ayyubid dynasty Egyptian army with some mercenaries out of these.

And as I love these sort of pictures I hope that more people will get inspired and take more army pictures... ;)

Danish Sergeants Heavy Cavalry

I cant paint Saracens all the time and had these Danish cavalrymen halfpainted on my table and thought that it was about time to give them some more paint.

Ever since I saw the miniatures from Fireforge Miniatures painted up as Danish Knight I knew I wanted a unit of those, they looked that good. :)

The miniatures was fun to put together and I think it was easy to achieve some nice poses. I really like these Fireforge Miniature kits.

So here I have a small Danish unit painted in the traditional Danish colours of red and white, a striking colour combination that I like.

Even thou I havnt given these lads as much time and effort on the details as some of my other miniatures I am happy with the outcome.
Its always a hard decision on what level to paint miniatures, to mass paint or to give them more details.

They are intended to my Medieval Scandinavian project but could be used in my crusader project if needed.

Peter > , about time you started to paints some Danes of you own...

Ayyubid Mamluks

The pimps of the Middle East...
This is my latest Saracen unit, a small Mamluk unit for my growing Ayyubid army.

The miniatures are from Perry miniatures and as you can expect they are really nice. One of the Mamluks were given a Gripping Beast horse to better mix with my other minatures and to free one of the Perry horses for something else.

This small unit can now be mixed with my previously painted unit to create a larger unit with good result.

Plastic Arab Spearmen and Archers from Gripping Beast.

Plastic Arab Spearmen and Archers
New from GB Plastics and released at SALUTE is this versatile and yummy box containing 40 warriors. You can make up to 16 archers, 16 javelin men or 32 spearmen from the box. Usable for SAGA or for Arab and Moorish armies from the conquest period to the siege of Vienna (at a pinch).

Wow this is just perfect news for me. I knew they would be doing a crusader supplement for their SAGA game but not that they would support it with some plastic Arabs.

Saracen spearmen

Some new spearmen for my growing Ayyabid force.
Four of these you may have seen previously as they were a test of using plastic conversions, but they have now been joined by Perry and Gripping Beast miniatures.

I feel now that I have the numbers of infantry of this type to start making multibases. The first miniatures I wanted to have single bases so I would be able to use them in skirmish type of games. But as multibases are so much prettier Im glad to have these on larger bases.

The casualty marker is from Perry Miniatures.

And I almost forgot to mention, the spears are made out of the straws of a plastic broomstick, you know those red ones. A small tutorial of this is planned in the future to show how Ive done those.

Saracen Casualties

I just finished the bases on these casualties markers.

The cavalry one comes from Conquest Games plastic Norman Knight box but with an headswap from Perrys plastic Mahadist uprising box.
The other one is straight from Perrys crusader range.

The cavalry was a sort of test run to see how the plastic Normans would be with different heads. And its good enough for me, so expect to see a full unit of these in the future. Well I got plenty of metal cavalry to paint before I paint those but some time in the future I plan to get a plastic unit atleast.

Sorry for the bad pictures.
