More fantasy terrain

My fantasy project is slowly growing. These stone could be made to mark out a special place in a game, or maybe be used as difficult terrain or cover. The stones are handmaid out of styrofoam.

And as you see in these photos my goblins are really tiny and the troll brothers will probably smush them right there.

Fantasy terrain tutorial

Fantasy terrain

A friend asked how I made the bases on the trollbrothers and I thought that it would be a reason as good as any to make a tutorial.
I will show the techniques I used but while making an area terrain, this will be used in my fantasy project later on. The techniques is the same as a small model base.

I started by sawing a masonite board in to a shape of my liking and by using woodglue and sand to cover it. On a regular miniature or a piece of terrain that sticks up a little more the this allmost flat surface or a terrain piece that doesn’t have basecolor that I like,  I prime with it with a black primer. (remember to not spray on a styrofoam as it will melt...)
Then I used my white base spray paint and applied a thin layer. I tried to use an 45degre angel with the white spray, to simulate sunshine. This won’t make such a different on a flat surface like this but will be more noticed on other pieces so I thought it would be mentioned.
Next step is to ably my regular paint. I tried to use “wrong” colors, bright and non-natural ones to make clear this is a fantasy terrain. By adding water into the paint the color will not entirely cover the white primer, this effect is intentional as it will make an automatically shadowing and highlight effect.

After some different colors I felt that I was done.

I then used my bellowed woodglue and a brush I’m not that afraid to lose, covering some of the parts of the base. Dont forget to clean the brush.

By adding green grass flock I will tie the piece into a more natural coloration.

Next step was to use my box of dried stuff. It contains all things that could be used on terrain, old tea, dried and crushed leaves and flowers, some sawdust and some leftover flock and so on.

The intention with this is to make it look as forest undergrowth, a more natural terrain piece.

And then Im done.

Unfortunately I don’t have any trees to my fantasy forest yet, so until then the area terrain could be used with these rune stones, or maybe just as a piece of terrain on its own.

Hell Dorado

Hell Dorado

” Before our armies went down through the river, and before the crowned heads of Europe launched this unstoppable charge into horror, Hell was only what our fears made it: a continent whose boundaries were drawn by the vividness of our nightmares, the ghost of an eternity of blood and pain. Hell had always been the greatest threats, brandished in the face of sinful souls just as heaven had always been promised to the good and pure…”

The miniature game of Hell Dorado is set in the war torn world of the 30years war. A great massacre of people in the town of Magdeburg leads to an opening of a portal to hell. The warring nations slowly start to understand what they have stumbled upon and a temporary truce is formed in the new settlement of New Jerusalem, the first European settlement in hell.

But this is no empty land, and others have been here before and the demon lords of hell is not fond of the newly arrivals. But the multi factional demon lords which has been at war with each other since the dawn of time has problem uniting in a common course to drive the Europeans out. They rather use this opportunity and try to trick the Europeans against their foes and old rivals.

Because of this a foothold is secured.
The newly arrivals tip the fragile balance and all hell brakes lose.
Some of the former slaves of the demon lords rebel, and the Ottomans are worried by this motion as they have travelled the lands of hell long before the Europeans and starts to muster in strength to face this new threat.
This is the world of Hell Dorado.

When I first laid my eyes on the first Hell Dorado miniature I was spell bound. They are gorgeous. I recently bought the rulebook, I don’t know if I will actually ever start to play the game but if the rules are anything like the models I knew I would be happy.

The rulebook is nicely written and I had a hard time not to keep reading the stories in it.
Unfortunately I haven’t playtested it yet but by only reading it, it looks good.

I can recommend it just to have and look at all the pretty pictures if nothing else.

The Trollbrothers

As a poor goblin your life is not getting any easier when those foul farmers running about and stealing ”your” crops.
What you need are a couple of these monsters. A big angry troll will scare the farmers away and the crops will be yours without any more troubles.

I said it before and I say it again, I love the work of Tre.

Modern Russians

Modern Russians for Force on force, Ambush alley.

The American posted earlier in this blog was just to get a grip on the scale and test paint some models, my intention is to collect a force of modern Russians as my main army. Here are some of them, the ones I have painted as now.

They are 20mm models from Under fire and I can gladly recommend them and their site where I bought them from.

Dragomir was once again stopped and asked a lot of stupid question. These young Russians was spoiled and hadn´t lived throe the hardships of life that Dragomir had. And now they asked him those stupid questions. They showed no respect to the aging former soviet heavy weight boxing champion and soon his temper would run out and something else then the mouth would do the talking.
