Vikinga Här

With the girlfriend away, or maybe more important the 15 month old daughter… I could make a sort of inventory for my self of my Norsemen collection spread out on the floor.

Here is something to feast your eyes on, my whole Här of Vikings that is painted at the moment.

The inventory gave me the numbers of what I have.

In Hail Caesar terms this will be the following.

1 small size unit of Thralls with javelins
1 standard size unit of Gestir
1 small size unit of villagers with dogs
3 standard size units of Hirdmen
1 small size unit of Hirdmen
1 small size of Varangian Guards
1 small size of Ulfhednar
1 small size of mounted Hirmen
1 standard size of Bondi with bows
2 standard size units of Bondi
1 small size unit of Christian monks trying to spread the word
4 Viking Chieftains or heroes
1 Skald

Thing I noticed is that I need to get more fitting movement trays and that I like multibases, so expect more multibases to come.

Other things I need is to get more light infantry, more archer or ranged troops, more Bondi with spears( Im waiting on an order of Gripping Beast Dark age warriors), more heroes or characters would be fun, more skalds, a unit or two of Huscarls, a sort of Norse priesthood or Völva and Im thinking on getting some Norsemen with more eastern oriented equipment.
And I need more Hirdmen, in short I think I need more of everything…

Is there any particular unit on your wish list for me to get?

Norsemen Gestir

I converted another bunch of Gestir for my Norsemen.

These combined with those I already painted can make one standard size unit in Hail Caesar or two small sized units.

These Gestirs are made from a kitbashing of Conquest Games Norman Infantry and with Gripping Beast plastic heads.

For a more detailed description on how they were made look at the previously Gestir post. http://kampgruppe-engel.blogspot.se/2013/05/norsemen-gestir.html

More Runestones

I painted up some more of those lovly runestones from Fenris Games.

As most stones where covered in bright paint I thought it was just fitting to give them some propper paint.

Exactly what paint the Norsemen used is hard to know as time has removed allmost all traces of it but from insciptions on some stones (often runescriptions on the stones them selves, like: this stone was carved by Sven and painted by Kettil or something amoungs those lines..) and from other sources we know they was painted in bright collors.

The previusly painted stones can be found here: http://kampgruppe-engel.blogspot.se/2013/02/rune-stones.html

Gubbspel Galore IV

I just wanted to make a heads up for the gaming convent Gubbspel Galore IV in Gothenburg in Sweden at the end of August as I plan to take most if not all my Treemoss fantasy stuff there to host some games.

More info about Gubbspel Galore IV can be found at the site http://galoregbg.wordpress.com/ or from "Silversixx" over at the LAF forum.

What this means is that this shit just got serious.
I will need to make me a fitting table with some fitting terrain pieces to match my miniatures. And I need to try to finish a lot of half painted miniatures and really try to focus on the whole Treemoss fantasy project.
And the rules and statlines will need some tinkering.

And a some scenarios to game could come in handy.

As I previously just hosted some local games at my club this is a big step up. Ive spent some time now reading about Viking warfare and mythology but the more I read the more I see how little I really know about it. But that’s the beauty about “historical” wargaming.
It’s a big difference in studying and remembering what colors or what name their chapter master got in the world of warhammer 40k then studying an actual event. This is history, well with some additions of trolls and their like…
The deadline for the games are the last weekend in August so I still got time to finish some nice stuff and test out some ideas.

Thanks for reading and wish me luck. Any ideas or pieces of inspiration that could help me is most welcome.

Mongol Conquest - DBA IV/35

Mongol Conquest DBA IV/35

Now this is a lot of light horsemen…
This army could be really interesting to play. Im gueasing it will be a rather difficult army to play but if you roll a good pip dice you will own the battlefield.
The only option you got with the army composition with this army is to choose between a artillery piece or a Light horse.

Painting wise I thought brown… Brown primer and use that base color on as much I could. I added some other colors to create some irregularity mainly red and orange but wanted this army to look brown…
It was a rather quick army to paint up and I spent nowhere near the amount of time on it as the recently painted Kwarizmians but I am rather pleased with the end result none the less.

Oh, and an army mainly composed of light horse means thats its not that many miniatures to paint wich is nice when you got tons of other miniatures in the lead mountain...
