MWW9 - Horus Heresy, Malmö Wargamming Weekend 9, day 1

So I went to the Malmö Wargaming Weeekend 9 with my friend Håkan to play at the event...
Kidding kidding... those pictures above are tournament 40k terrain...
I just took one step into the room and turned around...
No thank you...

We played Horus heresy.
Here under is a collection of pictures from the first day of the event. I didnt take even close to the amount of pictures this event deserved, but here are some atleast...

It was thee games day one and two games day two.

This is so much better... Just look at that handsome dude, Philip in my first game...

My Solar Auxilia would be facing his Iron Warriors. With both of us new to this new edition Im more then sure we made tons of wrongs with the rules but hopefully we made about equal amount of wrongs so it would balance it out...

Awesome game of Horus Heresy with a awesome dude. Philip even won a much deserved price for being,  the nice dude he is.

My Solar Auxilia vs  Dean Waltons Mechanicum lead by the dreaded Anacharis Scoria.
Cool army, big robots, some tanks (or rather guns with threads) and multiple units of "smaller" Thallaxes, robots still much larger then any of my soldiers...

I traded the cheep lives of my troops to capture objectives and trying to preserve the life of my High Command, he is far to rich for dying...
The plan worked somewhat... My men and my tanks got totally wrecked by the unstoppable big robots, but I managed to capture some objectives. In the end my High Commander was minced by the robotic onslaught...
Hopefully the best healthcare money can buy will let him take to the field in the next game...

Awesome and scary model...

The traitors are in the lead.

Another awesome dude, Felix actually knew the rules and I learned a lot.
Death Guards with deamons would be facing my Solar Auxilia.

I had really really fun this game even though my army got slaughtered. Atleast I could get some bites back with the Malcador Infernus as a special mention making a hail glory taking out a lot of lascannons just yearning to get burned...

My plan for the game was to tie down my opponent in the middle and have units plunking away wounds at range until I could move in my remaining units onto objectives.
It didnt work...

Samus...

Samus again...
Just for fun we had a challenge... so yeah it didnt go to well for my Legate Marshall...

Samus had abandoned his bodyguard daemons... He really didnt need them against me and they mostly just slowed him down...

Awesome first day of games.

Horus Heresy testgame

My friend Håkan and I had a testgame of the new edition of Horus Heresy 3.0 a couple of weeks ago. I havnt had the time to check the pictures or write some text to accompany them before now...

Barely having skimmed some pages of the rules I went into this game without much knowledge of the rules...

How you create your army is rather different from earlier editions. Gone are the old organization scheme of troops, elite och hq that have been with the 30k/40k since ages. It is replaced by a new system that works rather different.
You start with an Crusade Force organization chart, that includes a High Command, Commanders, Troop choices and Transports. By choosing a commander you get access to different detachments that could be a Armoured detachment that includes acces to tanks for example. So the commanders gives you access to further detachments and in some list specific commanders gives access to special detachments.
For my Solar Auxilia I got a Tank Commander that gives me access to armoured attachments and a Line Commander that gives me access to formations of regular lasrifle units.
I really like this new system but it took some time to wrap my head around.

Here under is a small collection of pictures taken during our testgame.
My Solar Auxilia would again be facing Håkans Militias.

It was lots of flipping of pages just to trying to learn the rules. But I felt it was the best way to trying to learn, just to get into different situations and trying to learn how you play them out.

My list would be lots of different Leman Russ variants and lots of basic Lasrifle squads, two Medusas for some medium range artillery and a Malcador Infernus beacause of the hellstorm template...

In the end we didnt have time to finish the game but with the ruleflipping and testing out different situations.
I felt that this testgame was priceless as experience and was much needed to just get the feeling of Horus Heresy 3.0

I really really like the new edition as of now and it looks promising, looking forward to more games.

What I felt my list needed was some faster reach, some more speed. Leman Russ sure got some firepower reach with its cannon but I think I kneed boots on the ground capable of capturing ground. So with some transports and maybe sentinels I think I can threatening my enemies of their side of the table.
