We had a gaming day of Warhammer Old world with a campaign. Each player had a 500pts army with some restrictions or special rules according to the campaign rules.
Minimum Two Units When writing your muster list for a game of Battle March, your army must include a minimum of two non-character units. This minimum can include war machines, but cannot include units whose troop type is ‘swarms or ‘war beasts.
Character Limitations As with any army, an army created for Battle March must include at least one character to act as its General. However, when writing your muster list, you may not spend more than: - 25% of your army’s total points value on single character.
A wizard’s max starting lvl is 2.
A maximum of one magic item is allowed and it may only be carried by your General.
Unit Limitations By their nature, the armies represented by Battle March are unlikely to include huge regiments or large numbers of elite troops. To represent this, when writing your muster list, you may not spend more than: - 35% of your army’s total points value on a single Core unit. - 30% of your army’s total points value on a single Special unit. - 25% of your army’s total points value on a single Rare or Mercenary unit.
0-X Per 1,000 Points Players of Warhammer: the Old World will already be aware that many units or options are limited to ‘0-X per 1,000 points; with ‘X’ being a number. This means that such options would not normally be allowed when writing a muster list for an army of less than 1,000 points. However, rather than preclude such fun and characterful options entirely, when writing a muster list for a game of Battle March, you may include a single such option. This might be a unit, a character or even an upgrade listed within a unit's options.
For example, a player writing an Orc and Goblin Tribes muster list for a game of Battle March, using that faction’s grand army composition list, could choose to include a single Goblin Rock Lobber or Doom Diver, both of which are limited to 0-1 per 1,000 points. Alternatively they could choose to give a single Goblin Mob the Skirmishers special rule, an option limited to 0-1 unit per 1,000 points. For this campaign I intend to play a Ellyrion themed army with lots of horsearcher. Short bows might not be gamewinning but with bs of 4 on elves and rule of cool I think it will be a fun list to play.
My first game would be against the Tomb Kings and we were competing for the middle objective of a old sarcophagus.
Using its speed the Ellyrion reavers redeploy.
After setting up the lines of battle for my army my Ellyrion reavers on my right flank engaged the skirmishing skeletal archers, hopping their horses would tip the combat in my favour.
An gigantic scorpion emerges from under the sand and attack my Ellyrion noble. That is not a good thing...
The large block of skeletons have secured the sarcophagus, this could be some real problem for my army. I feel I lack the real punch to shift such a large block of enemy.
With the assist of magic my nobleman is taken down by the scorpion...
Yeah yeah... He would probably been badly mangled even without the assist of dark magic... Toughness 3 isnt something you want when engage with monsters...
I really needed to do something.
Having outmaneuvered his chariot now was my chance. I engage the skeleton warriors with both my Silver helmes and my Ellyrion reavers, hoping to inflict massive damage in one swoop and see the undead crumble under my hoves...
After a couple of rounds of combat I had mange to grind down the undead and pushed forward...
My archer unit had moved up to guard the flank of my cavalry from the gigantic scorpion.
But the enemy chariot had manged to turn around and cough my cavalry in the middle.
The elves got slaughtered in the center and are forced to retreat.
