My friend Erland and I went to Copenhagen, Denmark for the Horus Heresy realtime event of Raltac minoris III some weeks ago and here are a short write up and some pictures from the event.
Some of the pictures are out of order so some the pictures of the games could very well be just that.
We took the train down to Copenhagen on the Friday and found out that we had five beds to choose from in our room...
So after some pubs/bars and some clubbing, with about 5 hours sleep it was time for the event.
The Horus Heresy event was held in a sort of sport centre and it was combined with other games under the Nördcon gaming convention.
Looks like Erland is fixing his hair for some snapchating...
But for the actual Horus Heresy event. All the players were divided into three teams, Loyalist, Traitors and Separatists.
Each player registration on a site with their phones and logged in, and could then move their army and agents. Each move was registration and was showed on a map.
Each team wound be scoring by holding territories, special objectives or fighting in battle.
When the time was up for the movement you then entered a table, if an enemy was present or was inbound you set up for a game. If not you was then able to move on the larger map again.
All units destroyed in games was taken away from your armylist and you then had to reinforce/ refit in an area owned by your side to get points back. You could use this mechanics to refit and alter your armylist, to make changes for it a coming task or battle.
A really interesting mechanic.
Salamanders moves into a table that I held...
My troops had about just started to deploy and find cover when the Salamanders hit me...
The Salamanders deapstriked an deathstar with 2 hqs and an Salamander terminator squad with those massive shields. So 2+ save 3++ save and a feel no save after that... Yikes...
Good thing I had an precision bombardment as a backup...
All was hit...
But that was not enough... They were still standing...
So I had to give them all I got, something like an Medusa, an Leman Russ Executioner, regular Leman Russ, atleast two squads of riflemen, some extra grenade lauchers and some random lasrifle shots from command squad but they still kept coming...
I basicly shot with all of my army against them but they could not be killed...
They are tough...
Custodes reinforcements hits my flank.
The Imperial generals are talking tactics and using hand movements to reinforce their overall lack of tactics... *Pah* My lasriflemen will take down your golden armoured Custodes...
- For freedom of the seperatists...
Ok, granted... Having a golden Conteptor running at you might not be the best of things..
And these Space Wolves looks they are in a sort of pickle..
Cat and mouse game... They just wont die... But they still runs after my Leman Russ...
But still...
-For freedom...
Challenge... Of course you imperial lapdog... I will cut you were you stand...
My Lord Marshals fencing skills are put to the test against the Custodes HQ.
My Xenos Sepoy mercenary (count as riflemen) looks for a way out of this... The pavement three storeys down starts to look mighty tempting...
It sure looks high enoght for a quick way out of here...
My sergeant blows him self up as his blast pistols gets hot...
Locked in and deadly duel with and the enemy HQ... Things did not look to good for our heroic freedom fighter.
Badly wounded he manages to inflict an instant death wound with his paragon blade on the Shield Captain, but he was lucky and his invunerable save saved his head from detaching from his body...
But... When I rolled a one on the Displacer Matrix I was teleported of the table. And in this event it was ruled that if I pulled back my force now he would count as survived instead of the regular rules for being in reserves when the game ends in a standard game of Horus Heresy.
All that was left of my once proud force... Two Leman Russes and the Lord Marshal himself...
I sure took a massive beating in this game but my force and the allied Space Wolf force under the command of Bjarke had managed to hold back three Imperial armies for a long time, giving us a great warscore for the overall game.
And I was really proud of my men.
My army again got into action, having not had time to fully reorganised and refitted I would be using a largely depleted army...
My army was once again forced into action, one of the Custodes players had followed my army and I was in no shape to actually put up much of a fight. My army was refitting and I had not reinforced all of my points as of yet.
All I got at the moment was my Lord Marshal, the Leman Russ Executioner and a lot of lasrifle men... Hardly a force to tackle the Emperors finest...
Lets face it... Lasrifles with strength 3 is not enough to take down Custodes with 2+ save, T5 and 2 or 3 wounds...
The Loyalist are a bit behind but other then that things looks really tight about now.
After a long day Erland and I found a nice Indian restaurant, a great start for the night.
And after testing some different bars and pubs we found a nightclub.
So.. after about four hours sleep it was time for day two of the event...
Back at the winter table, what was left of my army would be facing the encroching Custodes...
And they deepstrike in, far to close to my infantrymen for my liking...
I held them for a turn or two but when his entire army was deepstriking down I instead opted to pull out at the start of my turn. Giving the area to the enemy, to preserve my strength for another fight.
Seperatist Mechanicum tries to use Arvus civilian landers to deploy the forces inside the bunker complex.
The Loyalist are seen here pushing for the Traitor held bunker, Custodes covering the rear as they start to enter the bunker complex.
Militia Ogryns and HQ engange Salamander HQ...
My Malcador Infernus rumbles in...
My army was fully recovered and refitted, and mounted an assault at the bunker controlling the valuable airbase.
And my squad manages to inflict a wound...
Yeah... so lets say the Custodes hardly noticed my presence...
Traitor Solar Aux is holding the bunker at the Zalactori Airbase. Imperial forces of the Custodes have entered the bunker...
And the Separatists are assaulting it as we speak...
At this moment almost all the players were either deployed or moving into the Zalactori Airbase...
Things looks event tighter then before...
The Imperium is catching up.
The plan was to start moving into the bunker but I was alerted about two enemy armies inbound and they would be moving in to this table area from my rear. Thats not what my Lord Marshal was hoping for and I then chose the option of pulling my troops from the gaming table at the start of our next turn.
To bad, was just to move in to engage the enemy.
My plan was now to chase after some agent actions or engage one of the players that was not locked into the massive game at the airbase.
Here we can see a Mechanicum army with an extra knight and an Salamander army having just moved in from were my army once stood.
Final score was a victory for the Traitors.
Wow what a interesting event. Erland and I had a blast.
It was really interesting to try out the real time mechanics and would like to do it another time in the future. It really shows that a lot of time and effort was putt into it.
The only really downside of it was that the mechanics favoured armies focused on destroying the enemies rather then having lots of troops for capturing objectives, that is usually the standard in Horus Heresy.
In the future it would be nice to having more objectives make an impact of the table top gaming. But it is a really cool concept and is costantly altered and tinkered with and Im more then sure that it will only be better next time I test it.
A big thanks for all the players and orgenisers, all the nice peaple I met at the event.
Erland posted his pictures on his books of faces

For this event I had painted up some new miniatures. Events are just the perfect way of getting a lot painted in a short time...
https://kampgruppe-engel.blogspot.com/2019/10/solar-auxilia-reinforcements-pre-raltac.html
They were not done-done lacking some detailing, washes and pigmentation but they are more then enoght ready to not be ashamed to be played with on a gaming table. The final details will have to whait for another event... :D
Cool looking pics!
