Vättar mot Aelfer

This saturday my friend Johan and I managed to play two games of Dragon Rampant. I would be fielding my Vättar and Johan would field his Elves.

In the first scenario the Elves had stoles something valuable from the Vätte mine but the Vättar are closing in. The Elves needed to bring the item of the opposite table edge to win.

The Bonebacks use the cover of the big threes to advance.

On the other side the forces are closing in.

My Vättar use the small forest as cover as the place is suddenly swarmed by Aelves.

My big bear charges in to a unit of light infantry and wins that combat. But that makes him a prime target for the deadly elven archers.

But my friend was extremely unlucky and the elven archers didnt react fast enough and that big angry bear was up close and personal...

The bear took two wounds but the elven archers took more... Forcing them to flee.

In the meantime all my scouts was peppering the elves from all sides inflicting a casualtie here and there that would add up in the end.

The bear would continue to assault the elves but this time he had bitten more then he could chew and was put down.
I later moved backwards with my light infantry, trying to keep my distance from the aelf lord and his bodyguard. All in the meantime peppering the elves with small range arrow fire.
The Aelf lord deemed it not worth continuing and the Vättar managed to retrieve their treasure.

Game two that night. One of the Aelves was carrying a magical ring and the Vätte boss wanted it...
The problem was that I had no idea who...

The Aelves are up for a good start.

But so are the Vättar.

I send in the scouts to start harassing the aelves.

The Aelf lord had used the big trees as cover and advanced out on the other side. I had the Trolls and my Bonebacks to try to stop him...
He charged my Bonebacks and I counter-charged. Both units are pushed back.

Now I had a conundrum...
All that was left of the Aelf force by now because of all my light archery was the Aelf lord and the Aelf mage.
The scenario dictates that when the warband carrying the ring are down to one unit the ring would explode and the game would count as a draw. And as I have failed to find the ring one of the two units left must be carrying it...
The problem is I have no idea who....

The bear wild charges into the mage... brutally smacks those puny aelves... That unit is destroyed. That meant that I really had no option in guessing who was carrying the ring, the wild charging bear took that decision by him self...
And she was the one carrying the ring... The Vättar had found the ring.

Had I instead destroyed the Aelf lord the ring had felt it was in the last unit and that wound make the game end in a draw.

I think Johan have some thoughts about lucky dice rolls after these games...

Red Box Games Kicktstarter: "Warbands of the Cold North"

Just a small heads up for those interested.
Tre at Red Box Games are running a new Kickstarter, this time to be able to make plastic Norsemen.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1103158358/warbands-of-the-cold-north-epic-viking-28mm-miniat

Tre is one of my favourite sculptors and I wish him the best of luck with this.

With this kickstarter we plan to fund the production of Fantasy themed warband starter sets for use in skirmish table top gaming. With each warband set containing all the basic elements needed to play a game of any of a variety of popular table top skirmish games. At the outset, each starter box will contain 5 semi modular warrior figures repeated three times per box for a total of 15 miniatures. These figures include 4 weapon and shield warriors and one archer.
It is my hope to be able to expand the offering in each starter box as the funding allows me to afford more molds. These expanded offerings might include additional troop types for expanded tactical variety or alternate sculpts to replace repeated sculpts for greater variety.
The first Warband Set offered is Njorning hirdmen set which includes ;12 hirdmen warriors, and 3 huntsmen. Each of the hirdmen is semi modular being fitted for universally interchangeable heads and right hand options. The right hand options included with the set are 2 swords, 2 axes, a mace and a spear repeated three times in the box for a total of 18 weapon options. There are also 6 different head options repeated three times in the box as well for a total of 18 head options. The archer model is fitted only for a modular head.

Vätte bågskyttar

I just love the goblins from Red Box Games.

They are perfect for my idea of Vättar for my "Treemoss fantasy" project.

Here are the latest work, some archers and a leader.

They are really really tiny and thats just one of the things I think Red Box Games has nailed with these.

Vätte bärsärkar

I just finished tree new Goblin Bonebacks from Red Box Games.

I bought these second-hand without bases and I just gave them some left over I had, I should have been more careful when I selected these as they have some damages or left over paint that was hard to cover.

I really like Red Box Games Goblins, they are so full of character.

Goblin Bonebacks

These are some Goblin Bonebacks from Red Box Games.
I just love these little creatures.

Some of these I started paint long ago but I wanted to complete the whole unit to the same standard. Well sort off, some are more detailed than others but I think that will do for now.
Im still not happy with their warpaint and hope to fix that at some time.

Such a lovly sculpts from Tre Mannor and I now think I should have “ordered” more from his last kickstarter campaign.

Not the best pictures but I hope you can see something.

Edit: Some new and hopefully better pictures.

One of my favorites, swinging one huge hammer.
