Spraycan disaster…

Spraycan disaster…

I just primed en Russian Havoc helicopter and disaster struck…

The model ended all grainy and when the color dried it leaved dried out channels on the surface. I tried to apply another layer to smoothing the surface but that didn´t help.
I think it has to do with the moister level in the air.

Anyone got any idea on how I can fix this?
If I should just try to paint over it and pretend it didn´t happen?
Should I try to dissolve the primer with something without damaging the plastic kit under ?

Russian reinforcement

While visiting the girlfriend’s parent’s summerhouse I also managed to read the Force on Force rulebook and thing I starting to get a small grip on it.
I look promising and as good as people say. Im really interested to try out the rules and particularly the campaign rules with units gaining experience or losing it as new members joins if suffering to severe casualties.

To play this I need miniatures, and I have painted some more Modern Russians to play with.
The force is divided in common soldiers dressed mostly in Flora camouflage and Special Forces mostly dressed in Partizan camouflage.
The minatures are from Under fire miniatures and is highly recomended.

Things to come ?

Here in front of the cameraman we have the SS troops showing their skills in combat movement for a propaganda film.

The miniatures are all Warlord games. I have had these unpainted in my lead pile for some time now and thought that maybe its soon time too paint them.
A friend of my just got some American paratroopers and was talking about gaming skirmish 28mm second world war.
Do check out his review of the paras.

Will I tag along on that project… I know myself so why not? But, which force to choose and what gaming rules to use?

Im thinking on getting some of warlord games British infantry and a Universal carrier or two to support the “poor bloody infantry”.
But those Russian Maxim heavy machineguns or SS troops is tempting too.

Until I decide I could at least paint what I got before ordering a proper force.

Im thinking that I could use the Force on Force rules and use the classifications from Flames of War as a base for the rules.
Using for example Motivation from FoW Reluctant, Confident, Fearless, translated to FoF 6, 8 and 10.

Btr80

I have always loved the btr80, I think it’s such a beautiful vehicle and one of the reasons to painting all these Russians is so I can motivate myself to get me one.

The model is a 1/72 kit from Trumpeter. A lovely kit and was really easy to assemble and it included real rubber tires.

I now regret that I just bought just one, I should have bought three…

I painted it in a neutral green color without camouflage so it could multitask to different tasks.
The green base color is Valejos 924 “Russian uniform WWII”

More Modern Russians

I finally managed to complete another batch of Russians.

The Fantasy project did get a grip on me and I got a bit carried away. That meant that my other project did lose some speed…
But here they are, some heavy hitting Russians. Models from Under Fire Miniatures and painted in (mostly…) partizan camouflage.

Modern Russians

Modern Russians for Force on force, Ambush alley.

The American posted earlier in this blog was just to get a grip on the scale and test paint some models, my intention is to collect a force of modern Russians as my main army. Here are some of them, the ones I have painted as now.

They are 20mm models from Under fire and I can gladly recommend them and their site where I bought them from.

Dragomir was once again stopped and asked a lot of stupid question. These young Russians was spoiled and hadn´t lived throe the hardships of life that Dragomir had. And now they asked him those stupid questions. They showed no respect to the aging former soviet heavy weight boxing champion and soon his temper would run out and something else then the mouth would do the talking.

American Rifle Squad

I didn´t have the exact weaponry for an American Rifle squad according to the Force on Force rulebook but this will have to do.

One squad leader and two fire teams, one grenadier in each fire team and one AT4 in one of the fire teams.

Painting modern American camo

I made a quick tutorial how I indend to paint my American troops. Sorry for some of the bad pictures.
These models were fun to paint. Expect more to come.
The technique I will show is something that worked perfectly to paint German tropentarn camo in 28mm and I hope it will work here to.

I will try to paint a 1/72 Caesar model after this camo.

Step 1: Spray paint the model white.

Step 2: Paint the on the places that you want the camo on with Valejjo 884 Stone Grey.

Step 3: Use a sponging technique with the packing material you get in some blister when you buy miniature.
And sponge on some Vallejo German Fieldgrey 830 over the basecolor camo.

Step 4: Sponge on some Vallejo Green Grey 886.

Step 5: Paint all metal and other things like the straps for the goggles and so on with Vallejo German Gray 995 (best paint ever). I even painted over some of the earlier painting I have done with a water down mix of German Gray to give a better effect on shadows and to mark where the kneecaps ends and so on.

Step 6: I painted the skin with Vallejo Flat Flesh 955.

Step 7: Painted the boots with Vallejo Iraqi Sand 819.

Step 8: Now I realized that I had enhanced the shadow on the uniform but not on the skin and boots. Now would be a god time to do it instead of doing it in step 5.
So paint some watered down German Gray on the last parts, the boots and on the edges of the skin. I also painted some GW Wash Devlar mud on the places I wanted to enhance the shadows on. You should not paint the whole model with watered down German Gray and Devlar mud as this will make the effects of the camo disappear, just paint were you want to enhance the shadows.
I think the model is now tabletop and could be used in play.

Step 9. I now highlight some of the places on the model with the same basecolor I used on that place. So Iraqi Sand to highlight the boots and Flat flesh to highlight the skin.

Step 10. Small useless detail that no one will notice on a gametable. But fun to see if you look closer.
An American flag on one of the shoulder, a light highlight of dust on the weapon and a thin layer of red on the underlip the model. The lip I painted with GW Wash Ogryn Flesh and this should only be applied on the underlip or else it will look like lipstick.

So there you have it.

Ambush Alley, Force on Force

I used to be really interesting in modern military but I have never really gamed it in a miniature games. I have had my eyes on Ambush Alley for some time and read thru an example quick starter rules I found on their homepage. The rules looked really interesting.
And when some friends at the club started to talk about it and started to show some of the miniature they got, I couldn´t help myself but to order the rulebook. I had some 1/72 miniatures from Caesar from a friend. Some Americans and some insurgents that I exchanged for some spare 28mm Napoleonic’s.

Here are some Americans that will soon get on the painting table. I think they will be a good start.
