Spraycan disaster…

Spraycan disaster…

I just primed en Russian Havoc helicopter and disaster struck…

The model ended all grainy and when the color dried it leaved dried out channels on the surface. I tried to apply another layer to smoothing the surface but that didn´t help.
I think it has to do with the moister level in the air.

Anyone got any idea on how I can fix this?
If I should just try to paint over it and pretend it didn´t happen?
Should I try to dissolve the primer with something without damaging the plastic kit under ?

  1. You could try Simply Green or Fairy Power Spray. I have used them many times on delicate plastic and it works well. Though also depends on what type of primer you used. I have only used it on acrylic based primer.

  2. Dettol will do the trick (if you can source it in Sweden). Shouldn't interfere with the glue either.

  3. I had something similar happen to me. I think it was from the weather affecting the can. I can tell you painting over it won't help. Looked awful for me. I would take one of the suggestions above to remove the bad primer. Sorry!

  4. I agree you are going to be unhappy if you try to paint over that surface. Strip and start again. I also agree with using Simple Green, but Pinesol will also work and if you get really desperate; brake fluid. None of those will hurt plastic.
Usually when you get that kind of graininess its because you sprayed from to far away and the primer was actually drying as it hit the surface.

  5. Crap... Spraying these time of year is a risky thing, but I think a one or two day bath in "grönsåpa" and a gentle hand with an old toothbrush will do the trick.
